Poppy Campaign 2022

Support your local legion and Canada’s veterans by volunteering.

The 2022 Poppy Campaign for the West Shore community begins on Friday, October 28 and ends on REMEMBRANCE DAY - Friday, November 11.

Poppy Volunteers Needed

As most of you already are aware, Langford Legion Branch 91 is getting a fresh look this year, with significant renovations that began in early May and completion is expected to take between nine and twelve months. These renovations have not impacted on the branch’s operations but has only slowed it down. Legion members or members of the public are welcome to visit us at the office situated in the back of the building during these renovations. Should you need assistance, our phone number, 250-478-1828, remains the same.

Consequently, during these renovations, the Poppy Fund Headquarters will be located at the Goldstream Masonic Hall at 679 Goldstream Avenue in Langford during the Poppy Campaign.

Volunteers are desperately needed to assist in this year’s Campaign. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #91 Langford has at times reached and sometimes surpassed their goal objectives in previous years. Let’s reach our goal again this year! We urgently need you to help us help others. The only way we can achieve the goals we set forth is to get as much help from our community and Legion membership as possible.  You don’t have to be a Legion member to volunteer.

Most of our volunteers are the same people who help every year. Many are too old and want to volunteer, but they can’t. Through your efforts you can help the Branch fund local initiatives and support Canada’s veterans.

Poppy Donations are used to support and improve life for veterans and their families living in the Western Communities include:

  • Providing assistance to ex-service members, widows, widowers, and their families in situations caused by unforeseen circumstances

  • Assisting in affordable housing for veterans and senior citizens

  • Purchasing and providing of medical equipment and appliances for community health facilities

  • Repairs and maintenance for wheelchairs and electric scooters

  • Providing support services to senior citizens (drop-in centres...etc.)

  • Shelter, food and living expenses

  • Awarding of bursaries for local students

  • Awarding prizes for literary and poster contests to school students

The various duties volunteers can assist with:

  • Deliver Poppy trays, when requested, to the community through schools, community organizations and local businesses.

  • Phoning committee at least a month prior to Campaign start.

  • Assist at Poppy Headquarters to distribute poppies and trays to volunteers

  • Collection and counting of money from collection boxes

  • Manning various business locations with poppy trays offering poppies for a donation to the public such as Walmart, Thrifty Foods, Canadian Tire, London Drugs, Fairways, Liquor Store, Save-on-Foods, and Costco.

  • Drive volunteers without vehicles to their designated station.

  • After campaign, pick up boxes at business establishments

  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Poppy Chairperson

We ask for Two-Hour Shifts.  If you could do more – that would be GREAT! The more volunteers we have the less the need for multiple shifts. Therefore, if you wish to VOLUNTEER your time, PLEASE call Nola, Phoning Committee Chair, at 250-882-0031 or the Legion Office, 250-478-1828. Your time will be greatly appreciated!
