A Message From the President
As we are at the start of a new year I sincerely hope that the coming weeks and months are a happy and most importantly, a healthy one, for all of you, our valued members, staff and volunteers.
Needless to say, like many other organizations, most of the past year has been a struggle for our legion. Our limited operational rules due to the Covid pandemic left us with a loss of approximately ninety thousand dollars in revenue. This is due to the cancellation of many community events and services that the legion provides. Unfortunately, all sporting activities continue to be disallowed.
On a more positive note, we continue to advance the planning for our new Langford Legion. Our application for our B.C. Seniors Low Coast Housing will be submitted shortly and we hope to have a response in March. Our focus in the coming weeks will be the final budget for our new facility. It has been a great deal of work to date and I want to sincerely thank the Building Committee for their efforts. There is much more to be undertaken on this project but it is an exciting time!
I do want to remind you that the annual 2021 memberships are now due and it would be greatly appreciated, for those that have yet to do so, to call the branch Tuesday to Friday and pay by credit card or just come and see us at the office, from 9:30am to 4:00pm.
Bea has the kitchen open for lunch from noon to 2pm and dinner from 4pm to 7pm Tuesday through Friday & Saturday 1:30-6pm. While we would love to see you at the branch, we do have takeout service and it is just a call to the bar and your meal will be ready for you to take home. Every little bit helps our bottom line so please consider us the next time you are ordering out. Special dinners are planned for Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day so please check the website (www.rcl91.ca) or call the office.
At the risk of repetition, I also want thank you, the members, who have continued to visit the branch and utilize our services since our re-opening last June. Just coming in for a beverage or a meal means so much to our ongoing success. Also, I sincerely appreciate all of the volunteers who have given their time to help keep us going since last spring. Without you, we could not keep our doors open.
Hopefully in the coming months when more vaccines become available we will once again be in a position to provide many more services to you and return to some normalcy. On behalf of your executive, I do want to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support of your Langford Legion and we hope to see each of you at the branch!
